Everything else in tire buying — the markups, the jargon, the coordinating between a website and a garage — is friction stacked around those two moments. TreadVest is an attempt to strip the friction away and leave the two things you came for.
01 /Why we’re building this
Buying tires shouldn’t take a translator.
Replacing a set of tires is one of the most routine things a car owner does, and somehow it’s still one of the most confusing. The size is a string of numbers most people have never had a reason to learn. Two tires that look identical can differ in ways that matter, and the differences are described in language written for the trade, not for the person paying.
Then there’s the price. Between dealership markups, showroom overhead and “shop fees” that appear at the end, the number you were quoted and the number you pay rarely match. And “free shipping” online can mean your driveway — or a depot across town that still leaves you needing somewhere to get them mounted.
None of this is a secret. People who buy tires often enough learn to work around it. Everyone else just pays a little extra — in money, or in a half-day lost to phone calls — for the privilege of not knowing the language. That gap between the people who know and the people who don’t is the thing we’re trying to close.
02 /The approach
Three things we’re building the whole store around.
Fitment-first search
Most tire sites make you already know the answer before they'll help. You either memorise a size code off a worn sidewall or guess and hope. We start from the car. Enter your year, make, model and trim and we show only the tires that actually fit it — and if you do know your size, like 225/45R17, you can start there instead. Same destination, whichever end you come in from. The point is that fitment is the first thing we solve, not a filter buried three clicks deep.
Ship anywhere, fitted or not
Buying tires online has always had a gap in the middle: the box shows up, and then someone still has to mount and balance them. We're building both paths into checkout. Have them shipped to your door if you've got an installer you trust, or send them ahead to a shop that fits them so you arrive to tires that are ready to bolt on. You decide when you pay, not after — no separate phone call, no coordinating two businesses that have never heard of each other.
Plain-language guidance
Load index, speed rating, all-season versus winter, treadwear numbers — the specs that decide whether a tire is right for you are written as if you already work in the industry. We translate them. Not by hiding the numbers, but by saying plainly what they mean for how you actually drive, so you can make a confident choice without a glossary open in another tab.
03 /Who we built this for
Mostly, someone replacing a worn-out set.
TreadVest is built first for the everyday driver — someone with a passenger car, a light truck or an SUV who has noticed the tread is going and wants a straight path from “I need tires” to tires on the car, without becoming an expert first. If that’s you, the whole store is pointed at making your next set simple.
We also know fleet operators and wholesale buyers have their own version of the same headache, at a different scale. That’s on the roadmap rather than live today — we’d rather do the consumer experience properly first than half-serve everyone. We ship to the 48 contiguous United States — home, or a partner installer near you. The company is based in Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas, which sits close to the middle of the country’s shipping lanes, so tires reach both coasts without starting from a corner of the map.
